What We Did

This single family home had been renovated in the 1980’s to create two separate suites with no connecting stair case.

Our clients had been living on the top floor with the basement rented out, but now the family is growing and with a thriving work-from-home business, they needed more space. We connected the two levels with a beautiful open staircase and skylight above to flood the basement with natural light. The lower level was initially split into awkward rooms with different floor levels, so we dug down at the rear of the home and poured a new foundation and slab. The new hardwood floor, open staircase and natural lighting don’t make it feel like a basement at all. On the main level, we opened up the space including the entry vestibule. We added a new continuous hardwood floor throughout to create a light, bright, and airy space that’s perfect for family time and entertaining. The fabulous home is now completely upgraded and ready for another 100 years of family life.
