What We Did
Instead of moving, this couple decided that by adding a full third storey and making the basement suite conform to height and egress, they could increase the monthly rent and double their living space.
Our clients, a young couple who were thinking about starting a family, have lived in this home for a number of years. They had a non-conforming basement suite that was rented out and and unfinished and an under-height attic that was used for storage and the occasional band practice. They were essentially living in 1227 square feet.
Instead of moving, they decided that by adding a full third storey and making the basement suite conform to height and egress, they could increase the monthly rent and double their living space. Peter Rose Architects did a wonderful job integrating the new third floor into the existing character of this East Van cottage-style home and the final result was gorgeous.
